Fishway in Örebro

An 18 meter long NOAQ tubewall has been used for some months in the Swedish city of Örebro,in river Svartån, close to the castle. The city is constructing a fishway and they are using the tubewall to keep water away from the construction site.

"Although we didn't place it optimally, it seems to be the only thing that remained in place during flood peaks", says project leader Jan Strömberg. "It works great, in opposite to other material that was washed away".

NOAQ’s products to fight the expansive floods in Australia
SWETEK Pty-Ltd based in Adelaide has recently been appointed NOAQ distributors for Australia. SWETEK specializes with innovative products made from PVC based fabrics and as such the NOAQ tubewall is a nice comliment to the existing product range.

”Most people associate Australia only with warm and dry conditions but reality is that it is a continent with extreme variations in climate and weather patterns. Flash flooding and swollen rivers is a fact of life. With such massive land areas and distances, the rapid deployment capability of NOAQ Flood Fighting System offers an attractive alternative in the marketplace” says Kimon Lycos, Director of SWETEK.

Innsbruck and Garmisch-Partenkirchen purchase NOAQ tubewalls

During the last weeks the countries along the Elbe and Danube rivers have had great problems with flooding, but not more than half a year ago parts of Germany, Switzerland and Austria were submerged after heavy rains. More Tubewalls to Italy

The Civil Protection Authorities (Protezione Civile) in Piedmont in Northern Italy have ordered a further 300 metres of Tubewall. A NOAQ Tubewall was used to protect the Town Hall in the Northern Italian city of Verbania one year ago, flood protection walls from NOAQ have since begun to proliferate in Italy. A consignment was recently sent to the Civil Protection Authorities in Campania in the southern part of the country, and the city of Cremona in the Po valley has also equipped itself with a Tube Wall in anticipation of flooding of the River Po.

Appreciated design

It is not only in New York that the NOAQ Tubewall is appreciated for its design. An exhibition of Swedish design, "Elementos Suecos", which includes a NOAQ Tubewall, is being held in São Paulo in Brazil until 11 December. The same exhibition will be held in Germany later in the winter, in conjunction with the "Ambiente" trade fair in Frankfurt on 10 - 14 February. There are also plans to take the exhibition on tour to Los Angeles in March 2006.

Canada starts to manufacture Tubewalls

NOAQ has signed an agreement with Nautic & Art Ltd in Canada for the manufacture of Tubewalls. The company already manufactures other air-filled products, including RIBs for the US Coast Guard, and was named as "Entrepreneur of the Year" in Canada in 2003. The first tube from Nautic & Art is already being exhibited in a museum, at the MoMA in New York. Nautic & Art is also the distributor for Canada. Distributor in Germany

NOAQ recently concluded a retail agreement with Öko-Tec in Frankfurt am Main. NOAQ Tubewall to New York

This autumn, the Museum of Modern Art in New York will be arranging a design exhibition for security-related products called ”SAFE - Design Takes on Risk”. One of the products selected for the exhibition is the NOAQ Tubewall.

- We didn’t count on the tubewall ending up in a museum this soon, quips Sigurd Melin at NOAQ. But on the other hand, MoMA isn’t any ordinary museum, but rather a vital institution with over 3 million visitors per year. This mean an exposure of the product that money can´t buy, and a jumpstart for the planned launch of the tubewall onto the American market.

The exhibition will take place between 16 October 2005 - 2 January 2006.

Protezione Civile buys NOAQ tubewalls

In late October 2004, Northern Italy experienced unusually heavy rains, and the largest lake in the area, Lago Maggiore, flooded its banks. In the city of Verbania, on the western side of the lake, the town hall itself was threatened by the flood waters. By erecting a 100 metre tubewall, NOAQ’s Italian reseller, Falzoni, was able to protect the building.

This event consequently led to the purchase of tubewalls for use in future similar situations by Protezione Civile, the organization responsible for flood protection in Italy.

NOAQ tube wall now available in Italy and New Zealand.

NOAQ has recently signed an agreement with distributors in an additional two countries - Italy and New Zealand.

Italy’s flooding problems are well-known far outside its borders. Florence and Venice may be most famous in this respect, but there are other flood-prone areas as well, especially across the vast plain of the river Po. Now the tube wall and ”Il Sistema Antiinondazioni NOAQ” are being launched on the Italian market by Falzoni s.a.s., a well-reputed geotechnical company in Torino.

New Zealand also has problems with flooding, and last winter the middle part of the country experienced the worst floods of the century after unusually heavy downpours. At that time, the Ministry of Civil Defence had already begun looking into upgrading the country’s ability to combat floods and contacted NOAQ. Now, NOAQ has appointed Auckland-based Hynds Environmental Ltd as its NZ representative, and in April 2004 a first practical demonstration was carried out for the ministry.

In late November a big international flood conference will take place in Munich, the first of its kind. In the light of recurrent extensive flooding in Germany in recent years, and that huge amounts of money will be invested in flood protection, it is consistent that Germany now is giving this new ”flood industry” a forum of its own.

The conference, which has been given the name Acqua Alta 03, will be in progress November 24 - 27. We are participating and will exhibit a NOAQ Tube Wall at the adjacent trade fair, together with our representatives in Britain and Austria.

Whoever would like to visit us at the fair may contact us, and we will send a free guest ticket.
