BW52 Boxwall Shines: A Triumph of Flood Defense in Sweden

In early August 2023, Storm Hans battered mid-Sweden, prompting SMHI to issue red and orange flood warnings. With power outages, fallen trees, flooded towns, and halted public transport, the region faced chaos. Yet the NOAQ BW52 BOXWALL system proved its strength in a powerful demonstration of flood resilience.

Rapid Response

In the small village of Näsviken, home to NOAQ’s headquarters, relentless rainfall from Storm Hans pummeled the area overnight. By morning, a local road maintenance company reached out to NOAQ, desperate for help. Floodwaters, fueled by overwhelmed roadside gullies and waterways, threatened to close a critical nearby road.

NOAQ sprang into action, gathering all available BW52 BOXWALL units from their storage. Loaded onto a trailer towed by the iconic NOAQ “red” van, the barriers were rushed to the flooded site.

On location, NOAQ’s Founder and CEO, Sigurd Melin, and Sales Manager, Douglas Hellström, swiftly deployed the BW52 boxes along the road. The barriers successfully held back the surging floodwaters, securing one lane for traffic and protecting the road embankment from further erosion. This rapid and effective response underscored the BW52’s reliability and ease of deployment in crisis situations.

Versatile Protection for Critical Infrastructure

This success story highlights the NOAQ BW52 BOXWALL ability to swiftly counter sudden flood threats. Beyond safeguarding properties, its flexible application extends to protecting vital infrastructure, such as roads and highways.

By deploying the BW52, NOAQ ensured the road remained open, preventing lengthy traffic delays and diversions. Moreover, the BOXWALL intervention shielded the road from significant flood damage, averting costly repairs and demonstrating its value as a versatile and cost-effective flood defense solution.
